Many companies will hire an agency to set up a corporate golf event. Taylor Alison have an extensive portfolio of annual company events – taking charge of management, budgets, hospitality and even marketing campaigns to launch the event. They can organise the extra staff required for the event, as well as providing rules and digital “welcome” or scoring screens.

Andrew Murray Golf realises that corporate golf events are occasions when important clients and customers come together with your staff. The event must run smoothly in order to maintain a professional reputation and image for your company, so Andrew Murray takes control of all major and minor organising so that you can concentrate on the sport and client relationships. They also hold annual events that include breakfast, golf clinics and high tea.

Plus Fore Golf is a UK-based golf day management business which often arranges international corporate events in Ireland, Canada and the US. Attending the Masters at Augusta in 2009 would have put your corporation together with the most skilled golfers in the world, watching both practice and tournament rounds. Plus Fore Golf recommended that visitors extended their stay to visit other parts of the US or stay in a St Lucia resort.

The Scottish Golf Gallery have a number of gifts perfect for corporate occasions. They provide limited edition, quality knitwear and a four or five iron golf club head, which can be engraved with the occasion details, mounted in a grey and wooden presentation frame.

For a corporate golf event, the putt360 is a golfing putting aid customised with your company’s colours and logo etched on its top plate. Putt360 can also provide customised golf balls, tees and gloves.

The perfect corporate golf gift is an overseas trip. For example, for something exotic why not head to the Caribbean and have your event conveniently organised by Le Sport hotel that provides accommodation while your party head to St. Lucia Golf and Country Club. After golf, enjoy a trip to the spa or a swim.

If you are taking a group of die-hard football fans for a round of golf, make them laugh by buying a Premium Golf Gift Tin from clubs such as Manchester United, Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea. The set provides three customised balls, a bag tag, divot tool, a marker pen and more. Fusing football with golf will encourage a light-hearted approach to the round, hopefully inducing a fantastic day.

Turning up to golf looking messy is unacceptable. If you are unsure what to wear to the course, a golf shirt with a collar is safe. Often golfers wear bright and colourful clothes matched with black, white or brown trousers. Shorts and shoes need to be designed for golf: shorts should be to the knees and sported with a leather belt, while golf shoes have soft spikes (note: bring smart shoes for lunch and drinks in the clubhouse). Match your socks with your trousers or choose light coloured socks if you are wearing shorts.

In hot weather wear a baseball cap or straw gold hat to protect your face from the sun. In cold weather a golf sweater or jacket is a practical choice. If the weather is wet, ensure your jacket is waterproof and bring along your umbrella.

Do not turn up in swimming shorts, denim is inappropriate and make sure to call the club in advance to see if shoes with metal spikes are allowed. Google the gold club, also in advance, to see what other players have worn on its course. You will be able to judge how strict the dress code is from the website’s images.

Mixing golf and business is common. A perfect match, you might say. However, golfing businessmen should follow particular guidelines otherwise the set up will be disastrous. Golfers have to balance-out their skill of the sport with friendship, deal with the competitive nature of colleagues and react to success and failure with positive sportsmanship, which should be an extension of their personal behaviour in the boardroom.

Aiming to impress may have the opposite effect. Being aggressive may make the game less enjoyable for your partner and golfing when you are not relaxed will stiffen your swing, causing a poor performance. Being angry and bitter in defeat will reveal ugly sides of your personality and may mean your golf partner remembers you for the wrong reasons.

Engaging your golf partner is a challenge. Keeping it casual and personal is the key. Do not keep conversation business-related; instead talk about family, life – anything other than business, for now.

An important thing to remember is not to feel too ashamed of a bad shot. Do not draw attention to it by throwing your club and disturbing the peace of the course. Your partner will probably be more focused on their own game than giving your swing a second thought.
